Artwork Requirements

What Doesn’t Work

Small website pictures such as JPEG and GIF file formats are not acceptable. These images may not scale large enough to print without major distortion. A copy or scan of desired image is also not acceptable. We cannot accept any electronic art that has been created using these programs: Word Perfect, Claris Works, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Word, or Power Point. If you have artwork that was created using one of these programs, please contact us to discuss an alternative solution.

What Does Work

An electronic file prepared for large format printing that meets the criteria listed below. If you do not have access to this type of file, we can still help. If you want a well-known logo, then let us know and we may be able to help you find it. If you need images, then please utilize royalty-free photos from shutterstock.com or istockphoto.com and send us the image number. All custom jobs incur a $75 Art Charge for setting up the file for our digital presses. Custom orders usually take 10 business days to process once an order has been placed and artwork has been approved. NBS is not responsible for deadlines on custom projects without following our normal custom ordering procedures.

Vector VS Raster

Logos or line art should always be saved in Vector format. Raster, or pictorial, artwork can become pixilated when not saved at the correct size. Therefore, any words or logos should always be saved in Vector format.

Color

All artwork should be saved as CMYK. In multi-SPOT color, documents must use colors from the Pantone Matching System (PMS) Library.

Size

Artwork should be saved at a minimum of 100 ppi at 100% scale. Please include a quarter inch bleed around all sides of the artwork. We can provide a template if needed.

Fonts

Please include all font files used in your graphic or use the Create Outlines feature in your software so that we can ensure that your typeface is not distorted or modified when we receive it.

Format

Please send the files in the original format they were created in, not a flattened PDF. We can accept files from most professional publishing and graphics software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, & Macromedia Freehand version 9. The corresponding file extensions are PSD, AI, EPS, or INDD.

And Don’t Forget!

Please include all placed or linked files, even if the files are embedded. Please include a JPG or low resolution PDF file of the artwork for our reference.
